Dr. Ricardo P. Pama, the President of the University of the Cordilleras in Baguio City, has been chosen as one of the twelve (12) renowned experts from all over the world to deliver the keynote address of the World Engineering Congress, dubbed as "WEC 2010", to be held in Kuching, Malaysia on August 1 to 3, 2010. The other keynote speakers are from Australia, Germany, Japan, Jordan, Hongkong, Indonesia, New Zealand and Malaysia.
On June 10, 2010, the University of the Cordilleras was conferred the "Autonomus Status" by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), after being issued the "Award of Distinction" certificate by the CHED Chairman himself, Emmanuel Y. Angeles. The certificate cited UC's exemplary performance in the trilogy functions of higher education, namely: instruction, research in public service, and in recognition of the outstanding performance of its graduates; which manifest UC's genuine commitment to quality excellence and global competitiveness.
The University of the Cordilleras' Board of Trustees has appointed a vice-president for research, development and special projects in the person of molecular biologist and geneticist Dr. Ruben Castillo Umaly.
At a fraction of the resources of the top universities of the Philippines, --- UC experienced a surge of eleven topnotchers in the 2008 licensure exams. More than ever, topnotchers from the Cordillera have consistently and continuously shined through in national venues.
To date, UC has amassed a grand total of 165 topnotchers, establishing the Cordillera as a bastion for world class professionals.
The University of the Cordilleras this school year, formed a linkage with two school districts in the United States to assist Special Education instruction in the Philippines.
The Commission on Higher Education conferred on the UC College of Criminal Justice Education on October 9, 2008, the highest CHED institutional honors, the status of 'Center for Excellence'. This is the second 'Center of Excellence' status conferred on UC. In March 2007 the UC College of Information Technology and Computer Science (CITCS) attained CoE status.
Dr. Jaime M. Buzar assumed as President of the University of the Cordilleras effective April 16, 2007 taking over from Lawyer Reynaldo U. Agranzamendez, the dean of the College of Laws.
Winning overall champion in all group categories and placing in the first five top ranks in all individual categories, the Alternative, the official student publication of the University of the Cordilleras, took the competition by storm, bested 12 other schools and bagged the overall champion title at the 7th Regional Tertiary Schools Press Conference at the Baguio-Benguet Community Credit Coopertaive Inc., on January 26-28, 2007.
Sheer dedication to community service is what won Jonathan B. Guidangen, a graduating AB English student, the recognition of being one of the Ten Outstanding Youth of Baguio City as proclaimed by the Rotary Club of Baguio South last December 15, 2006.
