Criminal Justice Education

The College of Criminal Justice Education adheres to the UC Philosophy and recognizes its vital role in enhancing relevant and responsive education in the field of Criminology.

College Objectives
Towards these ends, the College of Criminal Justice Education exerts its utmost effort to provide the basic concerns and skills in Criminalistics and Law Enforcement Administration to prepare them in the practice of Criminal Justice; enrich their knowledge of constitutional and civic laws in order to flourish as devoted citizens of the country who shall be models of  integrity and trustworthiness; deepen awareness of the different socio-ethnic  cultures, ethnical standards of leadership, and discipline among the studentry ; elevate the level of their patriotism and service to the  people, to the community, and to the world; and initiate a research culture in the College where students and faculty members engage in classroom-based studies as well as community-based investigations.

History & Background

In 1986, the four (4) year-degree in Bachelor of Science in Criminology was initially offered with 72 enrollees. UCbecame another institution of higher learning in the City of Baguio which opened an alternative avenue for students in the Cordilleras and adjacent provinces to pursue a course in Criminology. Under the umbrella of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Criminology area has grown in terms of students' enrolment, and has maintained a very satisfactory performance in the Licensure Examinations.

In 1990, the College of Criminology produced its first batch of successful examinees in the Licensure Examination. Since then, graduates of the College manage to take the top ten or top twenty places in the board examination. It has then consistently topped the board examination with a passing percentage way above the national passing rate. For its consistent exemplary and excellent performance, the College of Criminology is recognized as the Best Criminology School in the Country

In May of 1997, the College of Criminology was separated from the College of Arts and Sciences and was established as an independent College."

In SY 2001-2002, Enrolment soared to 1,262.

In September 28, 2005 the College of Criminology was renamed College of Criminal Justice Education under the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) Memorandum Number 21, series of 2005. The College of Criminal Justice Education is under the leadership of its first and current Dean, Dr. Benjamin G. Mang-usan, who is assisted by a competent staff and a committed faculty.

INDUSTRY – ACADEME LINKAGES: The College of Criminal Justice Education has industry linkages with the Baguio City Police Office, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Baguio City Jail, Bureau of Fire Protection-Baguio City, and the PNP Traffic Management Group – Baguio City.

ACADEMIC LINKAGES: College of Criminal Justice Education is linked academically with Easter Luzon Colleges, Philippine Public Safety Colleges, Pines Driving Company, and Warrior Security Training Academy

Bachelor of Science in

Criminology

The field of criminology is the study of crime and the various agencies of justice as they operate and react to crime, criminals and victims. It is therefore the mission of the Criminology Program to provide the community with professionally competent and morally upright graduates who can deliver efficient and effective services in crime prevention, crime detection and investigation, law enforcement, and custody and rehabilitation of offenders, among others.

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) offering the Criminology program are envisioned as significant educational institutions actively and continually involved in producing graduates who have the knowledge and skills in addressing the problem of criminality in the country and the competence to meet the challenge of globalization in the field of Criminology.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:

The BS Criminology program gives opportunities to the graduates as future lawyers, jail officers, police officers, civilian agent or intelligence officers, private detectives, security officers, signature verifiers, special investigators, security and safety officers, law enforcement officers, correctional administration officers, and criminology instructors.
