UC roars in BBEAL's taekwondo competition

University of the Cordilleras (UC) roared their way to the top after bagging seven golds including three silvers and two bronze medals to win the overall title in the taekwondo competition at the resumption of the 32nd Baguio - Benguet Educational Athletic League (BBEAL).

The Jaguars collared four gold medals in the men's division while the ladies squad dominated the contest by snatching three golds for a three peat in the largest collegiate sports league in the region.

Welterweight Anthony Basang, lightweight Troy Mencio Jr., flyweight Karl Ilao and finweight Whinny Bayanon took the charge for UC in the men's division while the women's squad leaned on the golden performances of welterweight Charlynne Achawon, featherweight Menchit Macacero and finweight Kaye Porija Duday.

University of Baguio (UB) came in second after taking home four gold medals, one in the women's division including three silvers and four bronze medals while Saint Louis University came up with two gold medals coming from the women's division, with six silvers and one bronze to finish third.

Philippine Military Academy (PMA) surprised the field with its fourth place finish taking home one gold and four bronze medals while Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC) ended fifth with one silver, seven bronze medal haul.

UB Cardinals secured the gold medal courtesy of middleweight Sean Adrian Yagyagen, featherweight Millard Saguil, and bantamweight Mathew Ferrer together with middleweight Aubrey Micah Ezra Blas in the women's contest.

Lightweight Monique Ato and bantamweight Rachel Silaroy led the charge for the SLU Navigators while PMA Cavaliers' Sarielle Cabardo topped the ladies flyweight division to earn the lone gold medal for the country's premiere military educational institution.

Other medalists in the men's middleweight contest are Xyril Garcia (UC - silver) and Navales Cendric (SLU - bronze) while Anthony Basang of UC, Darrly Bueno of SLU and Jesrael Pac-day of CCDC took home the silver and bronze respectively in the welterweight category.

Neil Xyrell Zauron of PMA won the silver while Philip Pugu-on of CCDC settled for bronze in the lightweight contest as SLU's Kristian Mamitag snatched the silver in the featherweight division with Ira John Daris of UC and Vince John Philippe Cabagnot of PMA salvaged the bronze medal.

SLU's Salay Heasent settled for the silver in the bantamweight division with Remler Boac (UC) and Mark Anthony Diig (CCDC) went home with a bronze each.

Taking home the silver in the flyweight contest is Junel Mark Abad of SLU even as Richard Binot-lan (UB) and Ramon Rico Fantonalgo (PMA) settled for the bronze.

In the women's division, UC's Adarie Palor and Beatrize Palla of SLU secured the silver and bronze medal in the middleweight category while CCDC's Maris Quiñones was good for a silver in the welterweight division.

Sarah Joy Lunod of UB took the silver in the lightweight contest with Kathleen Ann Juan (CCDC) and Yoly-Ann Diamsay (UC) salvaging a bronze medal each.

Featherweight Keyya David of SLU won a silver with Rowena Chorachor of UB and Cherry Faed of CCDC settling for bronze even as Veronica Laigo of UC snatching the silver in the bantamweight class with Angel Grace Sebelina (PMA) and Kaycee Kaye Villanueva (UB) taking home the bronze.

Angela Amor Gutierrez (UB) settled for silver in the flyweight division with Anabel Gatoc of CCDC and Jerimei Tabisulan of UC earning a bronze medal each.

In the finweight class, Jaimelyn Martinez of UB came home with a silver while Mary Jane Mateo (CCDC) and Angela Araneta (SLU) each salvaged a bronze medal.
