Let me begin by extending my immeasureable gratitude for this award from the University of the Cordilleras - Doctor of Humanities - Honoris Causa. This is a humbling experience and a challenge for me to deserve it - thru service to community, country and humanity. Thank you for this great honor.

I am also honored to address you today to mark a milestone in your lives - the completion of many years of study, hard work and sacrifices. It is a time of thanksgiving and an expression of affection for parents, faculty members, school administrators and staff.

Members of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Cordilleras, President Ray Dean Salvosa, faculty members, administrative staff, graduating students, parents and loved ones, distinguished guests, friends.thank you for allowing me to stand before you today at this 71st Commencement Ceremony.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine receiving an honorary doctorate degree from any school, much less this progressive university that has done-and is doing-so much for so many. By affirming, in such ka powerful and moving manner, my efforts over several decades, you have also recognized the efforts of the many people, both near and far, who have worked alongside me at Community and Family Services International (CFSI). For this, I am deeply, deeply grateful.

Best Nationwide in Disaster Risk Reduction & Management; Higher Education Category; at the 19th Gawad Kalasag National Awards. NDRRMC, through its President, DND Secretary Delfin Lorenzana announced the Top Three Institutions nationally, namely: 1st Place: UC; 2nd Place: the University of San Carlos; 3rd Place: Capiz State University on December 11, 2017 at the Crown Plaza Manila Galleria.

It's a back-to-back victory for the University of the Cordilleras Jaguars as they roared as champions in the men's basketball of the 31st Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League by overcoming the formidable Baguio College of Technology Atoms, 90-78, at the Cordillera Career and Development College gym on Friday.

UC was awarded the 2017 Cordillera Gawad Kalasag for "Best Higher Education Institution" in the entire region in disaster risk reduction and management and humanitarian assistance.
