'A Role to Uphold': The President's Investiture

To carry on the commitment of the University of the Cordilleras - 'To Teach', 'To Research', and 'To Give Back' - all the while serving the people of Cordilleras; one name, a UC family member, one lucky man shall stand and receive the honor of presidency one more time. Yes! One more time.

Dr. Ricardo Palabrica Pama

Dr. Pama once held the office of presidency in 1999 until 2004, when UC was still known as Baguio Colleges Foundation (BCF). He moved to Angeles University Foundation (AUF) to share his infectious enthusiasm and energy for leadership and service. When he retired from AUF in 2009, it was ranked number 5 nationally. In the same year he came back to UC to continue to spread his impeccable passion for leadership and service.

Before Dr. Pama became a member of the UC community he was out in the world serving and leading at the same time. To mention a few, he became the President of Schema Konsult International, 1996 - 1999; Professor and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand, 1992 - 1996; Professor and Vice President for Development at Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand, 1978 - 1992; Lecturer and Research Fellow in the Department of Civil Engineering, Queens College University of St. Andrews, Dundee, Scotland, 1965 - 1970 and Research Associate in Structural Engineering at SEATO Graduate School of Engineering, 1964-1965. At present he is a Technical Consultant of the Commission on Higher Education since 2009 and a member and Technical Panel for Engineering and Technical Education in the Commission on Higher Education since 1998. He is also an Accreditor in the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).

His achievements in the academe did not end in assuming several positions in several institutions, it was echoed in many awards he received from leading prestigious award giving bodies, which includes "The Philippine Association for Technological Education (PATE), Inc., Golden Anniversary Award for Engineering Education, 2005"; "Outstanding Alumnus Award, Asian Institute of Technology Alumni Association, 1996"; "Banaag Award, a Presidential Award for the most outstanding Filipino overseas presented by the former President Corazon C. Aquino of the Republic of the Philippines, 1991"; "International Who's Who of Intellectuals, 1990"; "Outstanding Alumnus Award, Mapua Institute of Technology, Manila, Philippines, 1989"; "L'Ordre des Palmes Academiques (the Order of the Academic Palm), Republic of France for academic achievements and development activities, 1986"; and "Henry Adams Award of the Institution of Structural Engineers, London, England, 1969".

Mirrored in his achievements, the young Ricardo Pama was an achiever, in his Elementary and High School Education he graduated as the Valedictorian. Then he took up Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE). He finished his Masters Degree of Engineering (M. Eng.) on time and took a Doctorate Degree in Philosophy (Ph.D.), shortly after, at Queens College University of St. Andrews, Dundee, Scotland, U.K., 1965 - 1968.

Dr. Pama is the front-runner in obtaining the University status for Baguio Colleges Foundation (BCF), now it is called the University of the Cordilleras and he also elevated the institution to Autonomous Status in June 09, 2010.

November 26, 2010, shall be a momentous event for the University of the Cordilleras as it gathers for the very first investiture ceremony after it has attained its university status in 2003.The Investiture of Dr. Ricardo Pama. A ceremony which is not new to Dr. Pama anymore, since this is his second investiture as president of an academe, his first was concluded at the Angeles Foundation University.

Investiture is a ceremony to formally present title or rank usually involving the giving an insignia.

The Cologne, Germany-based TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH (DAkkS Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle) has certified the University of the Cordilleras (UC) to be compliant to international standards in the "provision of Basic, Higher Education and Related Support Services." Accordingly, Certificate 01 100 1432570 was handed over to UC on August 27, 2014, entitled "Certificate: International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008;" which is "valid from 2014 until 2017." The Certificate stated that "an audit was performed," and "proof has been furnished that the requirements according to ISO 9001:2008 are fulfilled."

The University of the Cordilleras, formerly Baguio Colleges Foundation has again matched the performance level of the best universities in the country, this time in the Sanitary Engineer Licensure Examination after the university garnered 81.25 percent and was ranked number 4 top performing school nationwide.
