The University of the Cordilleras men's Jaguars topped bracket A with a win against defending Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League basketball champions University of Baguio Cardinals, 93-89, in the latter's court on weekend.

The Jaguars led by as much as double digit in the second half but the defending champions, led by Zenrae Cosme, carried the team until they cut the lead to two, 91-89, late in the fourth quarter.

Confusion on the uncalled for substitution called by UB coach Joel Flores delayed the game for more than 10 minutes later in the fourth canto.

June Ray Buenaventura carried the Jaguars with 26 points while his brother June Ric scored 13 points. Krenz Trinidad, who fouled out in the fourth quarter, added 12.

Cosme, who made a back-to-back three pointers that cut the Jaguars lead to a single digit in the second half, scored 22 points for the Cardinals, while Beejay Caccam had 10.

The Cardinals even took the lead at the end of the third canto, 65-62, but the Jaguars took over in the fourth quarter and there was no turning back.

The Jaguars are currently the unbeaten team in bracket A, where UB, Benguet State University, Philippine Military Academy, and University of the Philippines Baguio are also aligned.

Bracket B is composed of the Cordillera Career and Development College, Kings College of the Philippines, Saint Louis University, Baguio College of Technology, and Pines City Colleges.
