UC Jaguars: Archery, Table Tennis and Sepak Takraw Champions in BBEAL

The athletes of the University of the Cordilleras dominated Archery in BBEAL held last Sept 18 to 19, 2010 at the UP-Baguio Campus. Both the men's and women's teams are champions in the event, led by Anthony Balacdao, Steve Degway, Julius Ryan Domingo and Joshua Mangomoc in the men's team. The women's team composed of Fe Sheila Marie Dom-ayan, Chona Eustaquio, Maricel Malah-hon and Rowena Lyn Minong.

On the other hand, the men's team of Table Tennis ruled the event and were also declared champions at the UC Gymnasium on the same dates. Mark Joseph Briones, Christian Cabrito, Mark Anthony Espiritu, Kenneth Kier Terminez and Israel Eliseo Tirante are the members of the UC Table Tennis Men's Team. Their counterpart, the women's team were not as lucky as they settled for 2nd Runner-Up.

Another exceptional perfomance was that of the UC Sepak Takraw Team, as they are champions once again for the 6th time in a row! This remarkable feat is courtesy of the team members: Wendell Caligtan, Christian Gosingan, Joel Latawan, Joshua Laureta, Arkhe Nuñez, Ernesto Padsoyan, Sylvester Palitog, Kenneth Kevin Rivera, Daniel Sangway and Dankashin Siano.

In other events, the UC teams did as well with top 3 finishes. The UC Badminton Men's Team are 1st Runner Up, as well as UC Men's Chess; the UC Women's Badminton and UC Women's Chess on the other hand, finished 2nd Runner Up.

As of press time, the championships for the major events, Volleyball and Basketball, with the UC Jaguars in contention, are still to be held.

The BBEAL or the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League has become the most popular academic sports league north of Manila with the big schools of Baguio and Benguet as active members, which includes aside from UC, BCU, BSU, CCDC, PCC, PMA, SLU, UB, and UP-Baguio.

Benjamin Salvosa, Founder of the Baguio Colleges Foundation, was named one of ten Awardees of the Quezon "Medalya ng Karangalan" by Quezon Province Governor Wilfrido L. Enverga and Quezon Day Awards Committee Chairman Antonio P. Acyata. Mr. Salvosa, who traces his roots to Unisan, Quezon; served in 1954 as Chairman and General Manager of the Philippine Coconut Administration (PHILCOA), drafted into government service by then President Ramon Magsaysay. Mr. Salvosa was cited posthumously for his accomplishments on behalf of the Coconut Farmers of the country, and for his contributions to the development of the Philippine Coconut Industry. The occasion for the Awards is this year's 125th birth anniversary of the late President Manuel L. Quezon, to be commemorated on August 19, 2003, at Lucena City.
