"Basilan's Soldier-Trailblazer:" UC alumnus among Metrobank's Outstanding Filipinos

Serving the Filipino people for 28 years in the military, University of the Cordilleras' alumnus Liutenant Colonel Elmer B. Suderio was awarded as one of the ten (10) Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos.

The decorated Liutenant Col. Suderio, who completed his Master of Arts in Education major in Mathematics as Magna Cum Laude here in UC, is hailed as "Basilan's Soldier-Trailblazer." As Commander of the 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion, he led a series of armed operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group terrorist in the said area from 2015-2017 which neutralized highly-wanted terrorists and captured enemy strongholds - contributing to the peace and order in Basilan.

As Company Commander he trained a company of around 100 underperforming Scout Rangers which was later recognized as the Best Company of the First Scout Ranger Regiment. In the academe, Lt. Col. Suderio conceptualized and introduced "Unit Administration," a subject that prepares cadets to take on administrative functions in the military unit.

Lt. Col. Suderio also established a stronger bond with the community. He provided alternative livelihood programs for Moro National Liberation Front returnees along with medical missions and a variety of community support programs.

"In a profession that tests values to their limits, our achievements should not compromise the best of human character," he said.

Before Cornejo became famous, he was commissioned by the Founder to compose the music for then Baguio Colleges.
