Three students of the University of the Cordilleras were recognized as among the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines - Cordillera Administrative Region (TOSPCAR).
Ryan Roy Bartolome (BSHM), Benelisa Dio-as (BSEd), and Via Lou Perez (BACom) were chosen from the 20 finalists from twelve schools in the Cordillera during the Regional Week Awarding Ceremonies held last June 6, 2016.
Bartolome is the Governor of the UC College of Hospitality and Tourism Management Student Council. He was the CAR delegate to the ASEAN Plus Three Youth Summit 2016 in Cebu City and served as the organizer for CHTM's community program with the School of Street Children Foundation Inc. as its beneficiary.
Dio-as graduated magna cum laude through the Department of Science and Technology scholarship. She was the Ombudsman of the UC College of Teacher Education Student Council. Dio-as served as a resource speaker on the Alternative Learning System Literacy Program as well as an organizer of academic events such as the Mathematics-Science Youth Advocates Quiz Bee and Basic Education In-Service Teachers Lecture Series.
Perez was a delegate to the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange Students and Youth Program. Her stint as the President of the UC Communication Society earned her various awards such as the UC President's Citation for Leadership and the Communicare 2016 Leadership Award. She also led the development plan for the Aeta community in Aurora which was named the Best Development Communication Plan at the Communicare Awards 2016.
The TOSP recognizes, through a stringent screening process, students who exemplify excellence in academics, leadership, and social responsibility - producing notable alumni such as Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Dr. Patricia Licuanan and media luminary Ricardo Puno. This annual search identifies role models for the Filipino youth who shall inspire them to hone their role in nation-building.
The UC contingent will advance to the national level alongside other regional winners from all over the country where another batch of 10 students will be recognized as the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines.
