Project Guheat: The UC Experience
The Geospatial Assessment and Modelling of Urban Heat Islands in Philippine Cities (Project GUHeat) aims to assess the development of urban heat islands in rapidly urbanizing and highly urbanized cities in the Philippines and develop models for estimating land surface temperatures (LST) and predicting urban heat islands (UHIs) by relating LST with environmental factors including land use - land cover distribution. This project is funded by the Innovation Council (Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, & Emerging Technology Research & Development of DOST (DOST-PCIEERD) and is implemented by the University of the Philippines Training Center for Applied Geodesy and Photogrammetry (UP TCAGP).
Project GUHeat's month-long culminating event entitled "HEAT'S UP: A Webinar Series on Urban Heat Islands" from July 17 to August 14, 2020. Each session will focus on various studies, outputs, and recommendations of the project which could be vital in the characterization and mitigation of the urban heat island (UHI) phenomenon in highly urbanized and rapidly urbanizing cities. During the third session of the webinar conducted on July 24, 2020, Engr. Lubrica and Mr. Valdez shared the UC experience during the project implementation.
